A
high intensity, no momentum workout program is
the safest and most effective means to
achieve muscle strength and endurance,
reduced body fat, higher metabolism, increased
bone mineral density, and improved cardiovascular
fitness.
In
about 20 minutes, your body will receive the stimulus
it requires to build lean, strong muscle. Nothing
less, nothing more.
Actual
muscle growth occurs in the 2-3 days between workouts
and will replace fat with proper nutrition.
Muscle
tissue is more dense than fat by 18%. Therefore,
replacing fat with muscle will leave you trimmer
and fitter even at the same weight.
Unlike
fat, muscle tissue requires calories just to survive
in the body. Gaining
just one pound of
muscle will burn as many calories each day as
jogging a mile or a 15-minute medium intensity
aerobics
class,
without lifting a finger. However, this also
means that the body will produce and maintain no
more muscle than
it believes is necessary for survival, which
is minimal for those that do not regularly exert
themselves
physically.
Our
job, therefore, is to convince our body that it
is not strong enough, thereby promoting the growth
of larger, stronger muscles.
To
do this, we exhaust all major muscle groups to
the point of momentary failure, such that all available
muscle fibers are recruited and exhausted. Only
at this failure point will the body get the message
that it needs to grow additional muscle.
At
the same time, we eliminate the inertial forces
found in most other exercise activities and which
are responsible for virtually all exercise-related
joint and soft tissue injuries.
